Time-lapse confocal imaging of RFP-CrkI-expressing migrating astrocytes. The dynamics of FA over 5 h is shown in WT and STAT3-CKO astrocytes. The FA that are formed at the leading edge of the WT cells are disassembled once they reach a zone ∼20–25 µm from the leading edge. In contrast, coordination between the forward motion of the cells and the FA dynamics appears to be disrupted in STAT3-CKO cells; in these cells, the FAs persist excessively and are mislocalized. Images were analyzed by time-lapse, confocal microscopy using a laser-scanning, confocal microscope (LSM 5 pascal; ZEISS). Frames were acquired every 15 min; the speed of the video is 5 frames/s.
