Filopodia are involved in the initiation of substrate adhesion and stress fibers. Video corresponds to Fig. 8 C. Video shows a section of a CAR fibroblast transfected with mCherry-actin and EGFP-paxillin. Arrows indicate filopodia that initiate focal complexes, separate into proximal and distal segments at the adhesion site, and leave their proximal segments to develop into a stress fiber attached to the adhesion. Time-lapse images were acquired every 10 s and the total duration of the video was 28 min. The display rate is 6 frames/s. Bar, 5 µm.
