Fluorescence recovery after photobleaching in neurons transfected with α-tubulin–GFP. Rat hippocampal neuron (2 DIV) transfected with α-tubulin–GFP. The signal of α-tubulin–GFP was simultaneously bleached in two regions in the growth cone and the neurite shaft (asterisks). Fluorescence recovery was faster in the growth cone compared with the axonal shaft. Recovery was followed over 160 s after bleaching and is shown at 8 frames/s. Bars: (overview) 20 µm; (close-up) 5 µm.
