The irreversible nuclear accumulation of EGFP-importin α in a UV-irradiated cell. After HeLa cells were transfected with EGFP-importin α (mRch1) and incubated for 24 h, the nucleus of a cell expressing EGFP-importin α was irradiated with UV (364 nm) using a laser in conjunction with the confocal microscopy, and the subcellular localization of importin α was analyzed. This video corresponds to Fig. 1 A (top). Images were recorded at 10-s intervals, and the displayed frame rate is 24 frames per second. Bar, 10 �m.
