This video corresponds to Fig. 1 E. Cleavage furrow induction and ingression in an aster-containing membrane pocket micromanipulated from a grasshopper spermatocyte. After micromanipulation, images were acquired every minute with a digital enhanced polarization microscope. Asters quickly disappear and astral microtubules bundle with mitochondria. Cleavage furrow induction occurs with respect to the midzone of the bundled microtubule array. The cell was fixed after the furrow is fully ingressed. The display rate is 10 frames/s.


Microtubules are the only structural constituent of the spindle apparatus required for induction of cell cleavage
